About
Meet the Artist
Hi! I'm Mariah, a multi-passionate maker, outdoor adventurer, in pursuit of building a beautiful life. The name Soft Animal Ceramics is inspired by Mary Oliver's poem Wild Geese that speaks to allowing yourself permission to follow your truth and joy without need for permission. Working in clay and making lamps is one of my ways of doing just that.
I fell in love with clay 20 years ago as a way of alchemizing life's challenges. Clay teaches and gifts me daily with lessons of patience, presence, non-attachment, healing, and grounding. I love the dance with mud to create something really beautiful. I started making lamps while working on a hospital team during the COVID pandemic in a time I literally and figuratively needed more light, so I started making lamps, and as I tend to do, I fell in love. Clay brings joy and light to my world, and I hope my work brings the same to you.
When not making pots, I'm helping people live aligned and joyful lives through life coaching, walking along the Deschutes River with my sweet dog Ruby, or connecting with dear friends while likely playing outside on bikes, skis, or rocks.
Thanks for being here!
